Present Simple Negative

The present simple negative is used to express actions or states that are not happening or are untrue in the present.


It is formed by using the auxiliary verb "do" in the present tense, followed by the word "not" and the base form of the main verb.


1. I do not eat fish.

No como pescado.


2. She does not like coffee.

A ella no le gusta el café.


3. They do not live in London.

Ellos no viven en Londres.


4. I do not visit England.

Yo no visito Inglaterra.


5. You do not like English food.

Tú no te gusta la comida inglesa.


6. He does not speak Spanish.

Él no habla español.


7. She does not live in England.

Ella no vive en Inglaterra.


8. It does not rain much in England.

No llueve mucho en Inglaterra.


9. We do not eat at that restaurant.

Nosotros no comemos en ese restaurante.


10. They do not understand English.

Ellos no entienden inglés.


The present simple negative is not used when talking about actions happening at the moment or temporary situations. For those we use the present continuous.


England is not currently hosting the Olympics.

En este momento, Inglaterra no está siendo sede de los Juegos Olímpicos.

Does he speak English?
