Where did you go in England?

Past simple questions are used to ask about past events, actions, or states and need the past tense of the verb.


We use past simple questions to ask about past actions or events that happened at a specific time or in a specific period.


Did you visit England last summer?

¿Visitaste Inglaterra el verano pasado?


They are used to ask about completed actions in the past, without mentioning a specific time.

Where did you go in England?

¿Adónde fuiste en Inglaterra?


It is also used to ask about past habits or routines.

Did you often eat fish and chips in England?

¿Solías comer fish and chips en Inglaterra?


Making positive Sentences:

Subject + Past Simple Verb + Object

I visited England.

Yo visité Inglaterra.


Making negative Sentences:

Subject + did not (didn't) + base form of verb + Object

I didn't visit England.

Yo no visité Inglaterra.

Open-ended Questions:

Did + Subject + base form of verb + Object

Did you visit England?

¿Visitaste Inglaterra?

 

Closed-ended Questions:

Did + Subject + base form of verb + Object

Did you visit England or Scotland?

Visitaste Inglaterra o Escocia?

 

Regular verbs are conjugated by adding "-ed" to the base form of the verb. However, irregular verbs have their own unique past tense forms.


Regular verb:

I visited England.

Yo visité Inglaterra.


Irregular verb:

Did you go to England?

¿Fuiste a Inglaterra?

 

Do not use it when asking about current actions or states.

Are you visiting England this summer?

¿Vas a visitar Inglaterra este verano?


Nor when asking about future actions or events.

Will you go to England next year?

¿Irás a Inglaterra el próximo año?

Positive:

I visited Stonehenge during my trip to England.

Negative:

She didn't try traditional English cuisine in London.

Open-ended Questions:

Did they watch the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace?

Closed-ended Questions:

Present Tense:

Positive:

Negative:

They don't usually eat fish and chips in England.

Future Tense:

Positive:

We will visit England next year.
